Vision Leads to Destiny

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained” (NASB)

Vision is what we perceive, by the Holy Spirit, pertaining to God’s purpose for us. Aubrey Malphers says, “It is a mental picture of a preferred future that God gives us.” Just as a train needs tracks to guide it’s way, so we need vision to guide us. This is true for each of us as individuals, but also true for organizations. We must each see how our personal vision fits within a collective corporate vision. I have heard it said “A man without vision is a man without a future. A man without a future will always return to his past.” So each of us needs a guiding vision for our lives. It’s helpful to take time to discover vision and then write it out so we can use it to stay focused.

Habakkuk 2: 2f Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run. For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal, & it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay. (NASB)

Here are some questions to get you started as you begin the process of discovering or rediscovering God’s purpose and vision for your life.

  • What do I feel God has called me to?

  • What do I love to do?

  • What do I value?

  • Are there any issues or causes I care deeply about?

  • Where do I want to be in 1 year, 5 years, or even 20 years?

  • What do I need to stop doing or do less of?

  • What do I do excellently?
