The Hands & Arms of the Lord

“Do you want to see the harvesting hands and arms of God active in your nation?”

Most leaders today are convinced that we will see a massive outpouring and a massive harvest in the next decade or so. Perhaps we will see another “Jesus Movement” among young people like what we saw in the 70s here in the US. It was just one of those times when many, many people came to Jesus, and introducing people to the gospel was incredibly easy. The recent movie Jesus Revolution documented how this movement started in California and spread across the nation and then to other nations.

How can we prepare for a sovereign move of God? I believe these are sovereign moves and yet every move has leaders who pave the way. God uses men and women to accomplish His work. I believe we may see an awakening that will last decades.

How can we prepare ourselves? How can we partner with the next generation who will most likely be the focus of a new move? These are things we must ponder; yet it still needs to be a move of God intervening on the earth. In Isaiah, the prophet speaks of the hand of God and the arm of God doing just this.

Isaiah 52:10The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.”

Scripture often speaks of the “outstretched arm of the Lord” representing His salvation. His arm or hand speaks of his sovereign power to intervene on earth. Repeatedly God speaks of “His mighty hand and His outstretched arm.” In Deuteronomy, it is written that God redeemed Israel “by signs and wonders and outstretched arm”. The hand of God is His power. Often when recording a story about a leader, scripture will say, “And the hand of God was upon him.”

It is the hands and arms of God that intervene on earth and save people. Do you want to see the harvesting hands and arms of God active in your nation? Pray this prayer of calling on God to intervene.

Isaiah 51:9 “Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; Awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago.”

For those of us who struggle to have faith for a massive harvest, Scripture says it is not up to us, but what we will see is a work of God.

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear”

But are the arms and hands of God just a picture or do they represent something real?

Duet. 33:27 “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

Irenaeus, an early church father referred to the hands of God as Spirit and Word. This is one way to view the trinity: God the Creator has two hands, The Spirit and The Word. This is a natural or physical representation of the Trinity which I like even better than many diagrams I have seen.

The arms and hands of God are stretched out toward us right now! The hands of God save us, guide us, comfort us, direct us, heal us, and more. The hands of God shape us like a potter shapes clay. It is His hands that we feel and experience throughout the entirety of our Christian walk.

Let’s pray for His hands and the arms of the Lord to awaken. And let’s pay close attention in this season to His Word and His Spirit. Remember that The Word is a person (Jesus) and The Spirit is a person (He is God, the Holy Spirit). These two must never be separated nor can one be emphasized at the expense of the other. They are both God.
